Sony Announces 16MP Sensor for Mobile Phone

Not to be outdone by Nokia N8 which has a sensor or Lumix 12MP camera phone which has a 13.2MP camera sensor. Sony has just introduced a back-illuminated sensors 16.41MP for mobile phones which will likely also be used on future Sony Ericsson mobile phone (exact date not yet scheduled).

This sensor has a 1/2.8 inch thickness and use the color sensing technology, also known as the beast or Exmor R IMX081PQ. This sensor will be available to manufacturers in Janurai 2011 with price tag of $ 30.30.

In addition, Sony also announced a smaller sensor camera with a resolution of 8.13MP which will sell for $ 18.18.
